Boho Cowgirl
When I was working in archives at Warner Bros. I was asked to dress some mannequins in the costumes from the movie Birds of Prey, which were going to be part of a traveling exhibit and making a stop at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Margot Robbie’s character’s costumes as Harley Quinn were so much fun with their bright colors, PVC fringed graffiti coat and bedazzled skimpy bottoms, let alone the custom rollerskates! But I remember picking up a pair of her white leather boots (the ones with the metal toes) and being surprised how cute they were and that they were Isabel Marant, a french designer that I love. I swiftly put my foot inside one, Margot’s size 9 too large for me, but I couldn’t get over how cool they looked and that the heel was actually wearable. Instantly my personal wardrobe wasn’t complete without white metal toe western boots. Since their retail price was $1400, I scoured my go-to secondhand sites and finally found them on The RealReal, in both white and then later, in tan suede. (White leather boots was a bit bold for me at that time, as I found out.) They were my intro to the boho cowgirl trend that is now everywhere, including on Beyoncé during this year’s Super Bowl. And if you are not ready for metal toe boots, (or even if you are) here are a few other easy pieces that celebrate the boho cowgirl in all of us.
