Our Jeans
My 11 year old is my size. Well, she is slightly taller than me now, but she wears my size. So naturally, we share the same genes jeans. I recently dug out older styles from my closet for her that had been relegated to the bottom of my rotating stack as wide leg, boot cut, skinny, ankle crop, boyfriend, high waist, girlfriend, straight leg, flares and low rise styles each had their comeback moments over the years, once again rising to the top of the pile, ready for their turn out on the town. But last week I was getting a coffee in the Brentwood Country Mart and found myself obsessing over the casually chic older woman’s look standing in front of me in line. Everything she had on was simple, but luxe. Thick, ribbed, navy, slightly oversized cashmere cardigan, Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra necklace in gold and Carnelian, Chanel 2.55 Flap bag over her shoulder, Chanel camel chunky booties, all very Brentwood. But it was her oversized, light wash jeans with their generously sized self--cuffed hems to accomodate her petite frame, that were the star. I never do the ask, but I had to. “I love your jeans, what are they?” I asked. “Levi’s Baggy Daddy,” she replied with a girlish smile. Before my americano was ready, I was on the Levi’s site, looking for my size. Note: they are actually called Baggy Dad, but think Baggy Daddy is even better. I may have snuck a quick (read: not great, sorry) photo of her…
