Go Shorty

I had my 11 year old daughter take this photo and instructed her not to get my makeup-free face in the shot, but to focus solely on the shorts. Or rather jorts. We were on Melrose Ave. in LA at an intersection she thought would be “great for a photo,” so as horns honked and I yelled to her to step away from the curb, this was the one and only picture she took.

At least it’s a way to introduce myself. My name is Karen, but since that’s a tough one these days, feel free to call me KJ or really, any other name. I have worked as a stylist/fashion editor/costumer for more than 25 years and have been meaning to consolidate all of the items on my ever-growing wishlist for my friends and family to help ease the overwhelming and sometimes daunting task of finding that perfect thing.

I am wearing A.P.C. for goop jorts, but actually found mine second-hand on The RealReal, a site I absolutely love, so expect to see more from them on the regular. I consignment shop whenever possible, mostly on Ebay, Poshmark, Depop etc…as it is environmentally friendly and I often find unique or previously too-pricey pieces that are now within reach.

I wasn’t sold on the denim culotte trend, but find myself trying not to show much leg as I get older and thought these were a happy medium between a traditional short (too leg-exposing) and shvitzing in southern California’s 90 degree heat in jeans. I love the high waist and wide leg and the look will easily carry into fall with a chunky sweater like this cable Mr. Mittens, this Sezane Melvin Jumper, this handknit Eleven Six and a pair of tall boots. Other cute denim culotte options are these from Khaite, Pilcro and Whistles (on sale!)
