Back in the day, I worked for a bit in beauty. As the assistant fashion and beauty editor at Fitness magazine, I could barely pay my rent but was invited to fancy lunches at Michelin star restaurants, whisked away on press trips that made my scheduled vacations look like roughing it, and left every event toting the most coveted of goodie bags as I teetered my way back to the office in my stilettos, ready for a nap after a glass of mid-day rosé. My beauty (and beautiful) friend Gwen used to refer to the industry perks as golden handcuffs, but somehow (why again?) I chose the fashion route to pursue. (Note to self: If ever offered an opportunity to return to the late 90’s, buy Apple stock and choose a career in the beauty industry.) I digress.
