I Don’t Think You’re Ready For This Jelly
I remember one day early in the summer before my freshman year of high school where I was, as George Costanza says, bursting, I was so happy. I had gone to the salon with the intention of getting a perm, but instead came out with layers that had magically unleashed the dormant curls I didn’t know I already had, AND I’d booked my first babysitting job that morning for the 5 year old girl of a single mom who lived directly across the street from my house. I was on top of the world. New ‘do, first job, all in one day. But the cherry on top was that I was wearing what Seventeen magazine deemed the hottest trend of the summer, my brand new jelly flats. The clear rubbery shoe made my feet sweat, so I’d paired them with white socks with little red hearts on them that showed through the plastic, and I felt like nothing could stop me. I haven’t had jellies since. That is, until now. This time around they are sleek, chic, and decidedly made for the over 14 year old set and are really taking my usual summer footwear (read: flip flops and slides) to the next level. Especially the ones with the tiniest of kitten heels with just enough lift to remind me to stand up straight and watch my posture.
