Quiet Luxury

My daughter wears a uniform to school (which admittedly takes a lot of the drama out of mornings) but is beginning to formulate what she wants her “aesthetic” to be. She pokes fun at me when I claim that the cream Polo Ralph Lauren cotton cable knit sweater she’s added to her Pinterest board is Preppy (means something different to Gen Alpha, apparently) or Classic American. To her, it’s Quiet Luxury, the term most affiliated with Sofia Richie Grainge, but which really is a mix of modest, understated, high-quality pieces that are (for the most part) logo free. When her sweater arrived (thank you Ebay!) I quickly tried it on, remembering the status of my youth of wearing something with the Polo insignia, a Benetton branded rugby or Sasson jeans. Wearing the embroidered polo player didn’t really feel like me, (it never did) but I have to admit, the sweater felt delish. The soft Pima Cotton fell perfectly, was fitted, yet simultaneously comfortably slouchy and unfussy. It had that yummy just-throw-on appeal of something you picked up to wear that had been tossed on your bedroom chair (or in my daughter’s case, the floor!) the night before—yet managed a decidedly polished and dare I say, quietly luxurious look.
