40 Year Old Italian Woman
With my daughter attempting to follow a quiet luxury aesthetic, it became clear to her, and me, that mine was quite different. She deemed mine, “40 Year Old Italian” when I attempted to bequeath her an old navy blue Lilly Pulitzer for Target jumpsuit with fish on it, which she promptly stuffed with pillows, propped up and had it seated in our living room with a pair of my leopard flats directly below its cinched ankles and my favorite charm necklace draped over the strapless top. I mean, I was flattered by the 40 year old part, but I laughed because it was true? Since leaving NYC, where my wardrobe consisted of mostly black clothing, heels and more of a sleek, dressed up and tailored look, my LA closet has become very colorful. I am no longer afraid of pattern, and to her horror, mixing patterns, wearing colors, nor flat(ter) shoes. It is undoubtedly a more laid back vibe here in California and since my illness, then COVID lockdown—where we wore “loungewear” ie: pjs or tees and sweats most of the time—I have dreamed of retiring someday with a closet full of colorful caftans, my style ispo: Mrs. Roper. In Italy. Come join me in one of these beauties:
