What a Croc

Stylish and comfortable go-to slides and sandals that aren’t Crocs.

My 11 year old daughter just won’t give up bothering me about getting her Crocs. White ones. I refuse. If I see someone wearing Crocs (with socks!?) I feel like they have a certain “I don’t care” attitude. Don’t care about their appearance (so bulbus! So gardenwear!) Don’t care about the environment (so much plastic!) And don’t care about their feet (gotta be so bad for your feet, right?!) I honestly think the allure for her are all the little bits ‘n bobs that you can add to the holes. (That’s how they lure the young’ins—with all the extra thingamabobs.) So we’ve had this back and forth for a while now. “Allie has Crocs,” she tells me. “Everyone does.” I tried the infamous “If everyone jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge” adage, but it didn’t really resonate like I hoped it would. I get the appeal as far as the ease of a quick slip on, a standard by the door for walking the dog, running to the store, school pick ups etc. But can’t we do better? At least we grown-ups can.
